Eligibility Criteria

• Residency: California resident in subsidy service area
• Household Income: Income eligible at or below 85% of the state median income
• Child Age and Status: Birth through 12 years; includes children in foster care and those receiving protective services
• Childcare Provider Requirements: Child enrolled with a licensed child care provider from Upwards' specified subsidy partners
• Additional Criteria: Criteria include child(ren) being recipients of protective services, experiencing homelessness, parents/caretakers employed or in educational/vocational training, seeking employment, family seeking permanent housing, etc.

Scholarship/Benefit Details

• Scholarship Availability: Award amount determined by local market rate and children's age eligibility
• Conditions for Scholarship/Benefit: Eligibility verified through the submission of supporting documents for childcare needs
• Other Requirements: Additional criteria such as at-risk referral letter from the California Department of Social Services

1. Before applying for Germanna's Child Care Assistance Program, complete the following:

• The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or a complete application packet for FANTIC
• Determine your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and Financial Aid Award
• A Single Stop Screening - Another screening is not required if previously completed There are two ways to complete a Single Stop Screening:
  • Complete the online tool for an independent screening
  • Or schedule an appointment to participate in an assisted screening to determine if you are eligible for state Child Care Subsidies

2. Apply to the Child Care Assistance Program

• Complete and submit the Child Care Assistance Program Application at germanna.edu/childcare
• Upon receipt, we will review your application for eligibility and available resources.
• You will be contacted via phone and your VCCS student email when your application has been processed.

3. Once approved, select your child care needs option through upwards.com/benefits/vccs
