If it’s a new cough accompanied by a runny nose I usually ask them to stay home. From experience they are still contagious, but if they have been sick over a week and it’s just a lingering cough I let them return. Hope that helps :)

With any illness it's best to get a note from a doctor saying that they are not contagious.
