Trying to find thoughtful and beautiful children’s books that talk about autism!

Hi there! I’m interested in finding a few books that have characters with autism in them. There’s an autistic child in my son’s class, but it’s also something that I’d love for him to learn about early on. Any suggestions? Thank you!!!

Hey Lily! My daughter is autistic and one book that we love to read together is “Cooper and the Big Apple” by Camille Cohn. It’s light but also so, so moving. It’s about a cat who has autism and travels to NYC. What’s even sweeter is that the illustrations are by the author’s daughter, who’s on the autism spectrum. 0 Likes

There are so many great books out there, Lily. A few that I’d recommend off the top of my head are “Noah Chases the Wind” by Michelle Worthington, “My Brother Charlie” by Holly Robinson Peete and Ryan Elizabeth Peete, “Tacos Anyone” by Marvie Ellis (which is bilingual!), and “We’re Amazing, 1, 2, 3!” which is a Sesame Street storybook. They’re all really wonderful stories about kindness and inclusivity–not just special needs! Thanks for making sure you teach your son about how important acceptance is. 0 Likes

I would do a Google search specific for the age you're trying to address. 0 Likes
