What age is okay for piercing my daughter's ears?

My mother in law has started asking when we’re going to have our little girl’s ears pierced. I didn’t get mine pierced until I was about 15 or 16, so I was never planning on having her ears done so young. She’s only 5. Obviously there’s nothing wrong with waiting until later, but I’m feeling kind of pressured. Does anyone have strong opinions about having a child’s ears pierced?

Piercing a baby’s ears really isn’t okay. What if she grows up and decides she doesn’t want her ears pierced? It’s her body, and it’s your job to protect it! We didn’t pierce my daughter’s ears because it goes against our religious beliefs, but I feel that we wouldn’t have done it anyway. It seems unnecessary to me. 0 Likes

All of the little girls in our family have their ears pierced. It’s not that big of a deal. I think they’ll probably thank us later because they won’t need to get it done as teens or adults, and they won’t remember the pain this way! Why is your mother in law pressuring you though? That seems like something not worth worrying about. Really hope this helps you! 0 Likes

My husband and I agreed that we would wait to pierce our girls' ears until they can ask for it, understand the pain and the healthcare afterwards, and earn it somehow. 0 Likes
