The first 5 years of life are the most developmentally important. I believe as educators and caregivers we should act as role models to demonstrate positive behavior guidance as well as to assist children in how to manage social situations with one another. I will provide guidance they need to develop a positive self image, self control, and acceptable behavior. We will be both indoors and outdoors. We will have active and quiet times. There will be a basic structure to our days, but I will not push rigidness. Times and activities may vary. ACTIVITIES AND CURRICULUM:I am trained in the Montessori curriculum for ages 2.5 to 6 years old. It is my goal to provide age appropriate activities for all children under my care. The Montessori curriculum has many components. Respect: Montessori is deeply respectful of the child, the child's person-hood, the child's choices, the child's independence, and the child's abilities. This is seen in how we speak to the child, trust the child, and lead the child. Education from Birth: From the moment a child is born, the Montessori method can be applied. It starts with a carefully prepared environment, but also with the attitude of adults towards the baby. It expands into many areas including sensorial exploration, geography, language, science, art, practical life activities, peace education, and mathematics. Work and Play: In Montessori, a child's experiences in their environment are called work". This adds to the respect that we give the child by acknowledging the important tasks that they are undertaking.Prepared Environment: Montessori is about creating a prepared environment that is orderly, beautiful, and centered on the child. Practical: Montessori is practical. There is heavy emphasis at home and in the classroom on practical activities from a very young age. Cooking, cleaning, sewing, pouring, and washing are all part of practical work that the child can do. Freedom: Montessori is about freedom WITHIN limits. A child is given as much freedom as that child can handle in a particular environment or situation. This includes freedom of movement, freedom to choose their own activities, and freedom to repeat those activities as many times as they want.In addition to this, I use the Mother Goose Time preschool curriculum that is adaptable to all ages.
