I believe that children need to be children. They need to be allowed to play, run, laugh, yell, shout, cry and be themselves. I believe that children learn primarily through play, so my program offers a wide range of activities for them to learn through. I have two outside area that include riding toys, sandbox, mud kitchen and dirt pile for digging in. There are also craft supplies outside as well as books and other toys. Inside toys are rotated every two weeks and books are rotated weekly if not more often. We read daily to the children when they request it as well as when I or my assistant will just pick up a book and start reading, the kids then run to hear the stories. We follow Creative Curriculum as our main source of planning activities with the children. I pick "themes" based on their interests. I plan weekly art activities, though based on other activities we are doing we may not get to art. We LOVE science here and do lots of different science experiments. Daily I put out what I call "table toys". These are activities that build fine motor skills, work on sorting, colors, counting, etc and the kids love it. We teach the kids how to use manners and other skills that they will need to grow up to be the kind of adults that others want to be around.
