I believe that bonding and attachment between myself and the children in my care is the most important aspect of the programming at Circle of Friends Daycare. Young children need to bond with the important adults in their lives in order to feel safe, confident, loved and nurtured. Learning potential is best reached when these needs are met. The environment in my program is specifically designed to give children opportunities to acquire new skills when they are developmentally ready through a variety of materials, unstructured activities, and occasional structured activities. I focus specifically on language and literacy by continually labeling and describing what the children are doing, feeling, and likely thinking throughout the day. We also develop these skills as we sing and rhyme our way through our daily routines, and as we use sign language in addition to spoken English. In order to structure my environment to best encourage each child's development, I use the Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP) to monitor child development and guide discussion during parent/provider conferences. I use a combination of Creative Curriculum for Toddlers and Twos, and Early Learning Success as resources when I write my curriculum each year.Through my experiences as a nanny, special education para professional, deaf/hard of hearing (DHH) teacher, DHH birth-three home visitor, as well as my combined 19 years as a family child care provider, I have developed a deep understanding and appreciation for the importance of both the provider-child and the provider-parent relationships. I have found that working with infants and toddlers AND their parents, has been the most enjoyable, exciting, rewarding, and often entertaining, profession and I am so proud to be a part of it.It is my goal to develop a trusting partnership with each parent, to love each child as my own, to nurture and encourage families, and to foster that sense of wonder and a love of learning in each child that will stay with them into school and beyond.
